Denmark’s gambling industry experienced a notable rise in total spending during August 2024, with gross gaming revenue (GGR) hitting DKK 571 million ($84.1 million). This represents a 4.3% increase compared to August 2023, primarily driven by a significant surge in online casino activity. However, while online casino revenue flourished, other sectors like sports betting, gaming machines, and land-based casinos saw declines.
The online casino segment was the star performer, contributing DKK 299 million to the overall GGR in August—a remarkable 20.8% increase from the same month last year. This growth also marked a 5.3% rise compared to July 2024. Despite coming close, the August figures fell just shy of the all-time monthly revenue record for online casinos in Denmark, which was set at DKK 309 million in March of this year.
This trend demonstrates a clear shift in consumer behavior, with more Danish gamblers opting for the convenience and variety of online platforms over traditional gambling formats. Online slots, roulette, blackjack, poker, and bingo games continue to be popular choices for players, drawing significant traffic and revenue to online casino operators.
