This guide should provide you with everything you need to know before playing European Roulette.
A Brief History of European Roulette
The origins of European roulette come from the same source as French roulette, through the desire of Blaise Pascal to create a perpetual motion machine in 1655 and accidentally creating the first ‘small wheel’, or roulette. The famed mathematician didn’t realise that he had stumbled upon a game that would be played for centuries. Later on, in the 1840s, Francois and Luis Blanc tweaked the game, adding the zero slot to the table and engaging it as a way of making money, finally moving to Monte Carlo in the 1860s to open a casino once gambling had become illegal in France.
It was from here that the game of roulette became widely popular, with the stylish and elegant aesthetic of roulette becoming apparent. The European game type differs from French Roulette in only small ways, including the fact everything is written in English, and you do not see the La Partage or En Prison rules on the table.
