SkyCity Entertainment Group, the company that owns and operates five different land-based casinos in Australia and New Zealand, has announced the appointment of David Attenborough as a Non-Executive Director.
The appointment will become effective once it receives all necessary regulatory approvals, but it is expected to be completed by the end of February. Until then, David Attenborough will join the SkyCity Entertainment Board of Directors in an advisory capacity.
Speaking about the appointment of David Attenborough, Julian Cook, the Chairman of SkyCity Entertainment described his new colleague as an individual with “extensive gambling industry and corporate governance and sustainability experience” and added that Attenborough “will bring considerable expertise to the Skycity board.”
David Attenborough is based in Sydney and has previously worked as a Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at Tabcorp, the powerful Australian lottery and betting operator. He left that company in 2022 after 12 years on the job, following the demerger of the firm’s lottery business from the wagering and media arm.
Before his time with Tabcorp, David Attenborough was Chief Executive Officer of Phumelela Gaming and Leisure for six years and also held gambling-focused roles at the Hilton Group.
